Water system
BG 88 Commissioning Responsibilities Framework, by Matt Lowry, published by BSRIA in January 2025, states in relation to water systems: ‘This term has the same meaning as in CIBSE Code W and BSRIA BG 2. Water systems are systems which use water in pipes as a means of transferring heat. This includes closed heating and cooling systems, open systems such as cooling tower condenser loops, ground source heat pump collector loops and heat networks. These systems are often referred to as hydronic systems.’
Water safety in buildings, published by the World Health Organization in 2011, states in relation to water systems (external or building-specific): ‘An external system is one that provides multiple users and can be either publicly or privately owned. A building-specific supply is defined as an individual and isolated drinking-water system that is distinct from any external water system.’
